A Note on a Problem of Motzkin Regarding Density of Integral Sets with Missing Differences
نویسندگان
چکیده
For a given set M of positive integers, a problem of Motzkin asks to determine the maximal density μ(M) among sets of nonnegative integers in which no two elements differ by an element of M . The problem is completely settled when |M | ≤ 2, and some partial results are known for several families of M when |M | ≥ 3. In 1985 Rabinowitz & Proulx provided a lower bound for μ({a, b, a+ b}) and conjectured that their bound was sharp. Liu & Zhu proved this conjecture in 2004. For each n ≥ 1, we determine κ({a, b, n(a + b)}), which is a lower bound for μ({a, b, n(a + b)}), and conjecture this to be the exact value of μ({a, b, n(a+ b)}).

On the Density of Integral Sets with Missing Differences
For a given set M of positive integers, a well-known problem of Motzkin asks for determining the maximal density μ(M) among sets of nonnegative integers in which no two elements differ by M . The problem is completely settled when |M | ≤ 2, and some partial results are known for several families of M for |M | ≥ 3. In this paper, we consider the case M = {a, b, c}, with c a multiple of a or b. I...
متن کاملProbabilistic Linkage of Persian Record with Missing Data
Extended Abstract. When the comprehensive information about a topic is scattered among two or more data sets, using only one of those data sets would lead to information loss available in other data sets. Hence, it is necessary to integrate scattered information to a comprehensive unique data set. On the other hand, sometimes we are interested in recognition of duplications in a data set. The i...
متن کاملA New Approach for Knowledge Based Systems Reduction using Rough Sets Theory (RESEARCH NOTE)
Problem of knowledge analysis for decision support system is the most difficult task of information systems. This paper presents a new approach based on notions of mathematical theory of Rough Sets to solve this problem. Using these concepts a systematic approach has been developed to reduce the size of decision database and extract reduced rules set from vague and uncertain data. The method ha...
متن کاملFlow Shop Scheduling Problem with Missing Operations: Genetic Algorithm and Tabu Search
Flow shop scheduling problem with missing operations is studied in this paper. Missing operations assumption refers to the fact that at least one job does not visit one machine in the production process. A mixed-binary integer programming model has been presented for this problem to minimize the makespan. The genetic algorithm (GA) and tabu search (TS) are used to deal with the optimization...
متن کاملParametric and Nonparametric Regression with Missing X’s—A Review
This paper gives a detailed overview of the problem of missing data in parametric and nonparametric regression. Theoretical basics, properties as well as simulation results may help the reader to get familiar with the common problem of incomplete data sets. Of course, not all occurences can be discussed so this paper could be seen as an introduction to missing data within regression analysis an...
